Siddipet: Direct sowing of rice is most suitable for Sannalu-Expert
Siddipet: The fine rice varieties locally known as Sanna Vari Rakalu are becoming increasingly popular among farmers due to the rise in domestic consumption and export demand. Agriculture officials and scientists have underlined the importance of adopting direct seeded rice (DSR) methods for farmers cultivating Sannalu. In the last Yasaangi season, most of the farmers of Eravali village earned huge profits by cultivating the bold rice variety. Recognising the potential of DSR, the Siddipet agriculture department organised an awareness programme at Markook Raithu Vedika in Markook mandal on Saturday.
The initiative was aimed at educating farmers about the benefits and methods of DSR. As part of the programme, Nuziveedu Seeds Ltd distributed 2,500 kg of Sannalu seeds to local farmers, which will cover 250 acres. The distribution was part of the CSR initiative of Nuziveedu Seeds Ltd. Advertisement Advertisement The programme was attended by leading agriculture experts and officials. Mandal Agriculture Officer T Nagendra Reddy explained the challenges associated with DSR and suggested practical solutions to overcome them. Dr Pallavi, scientist at District Agricultural Technology Training Centre (DATTC) at Thornala, highlighted the several benefits of DSR and emphasised its suitability for fine rice varieties.
A representative from Nuziveedu Seeds Ltd said, “This programme is an important step towards promoting sustainable agricultural practices and enhancing the livelihoods of our farmers.” The initiative reflects a concerted effort to support the farming community by introducing advanced agricultural techniques and high-yielding seed varieties. Farmers of Markook mandal expressed hope about the new techniques and the possibility of higher yield and better income. With the continued support of the Telangana Agriculture Department and seed companies, the adoption of DSR in fine rice cultivation is expected to increase, further boosting the agricultural economy of the region.
