Six potato-laden trucks arrive in Odisha amidst potato crisis

Cuttack: In a relief for the consumers in Odisha, as many as six potato-laden trucks have arrived in Chhatra bazar in Odisha. Two trucks have come from Uttar Pradesh and four of them have arrived from West Bengal (WB).

The wholesale price of potato on Monday was Rs 38/- and it was sold at Rs 45 in the retail market. Today the price of potato has declined by Rs 2 after the arrival of potato-laden trucks in Odisha. The West Bengal government had banned to export potatoes to Odisha after the productivity of the tuber crop declined there. CM Mamta Banerjee had announced that potatoes will be supplied in February and March after the potato harvest.

On the other hand, the sellers in Kolkata have protested this decision. After a failed meeting between Pragatisila potato suppliers union and West Bengal government, the suppliers have decided to stop potato supply in West Bengal. Earlier a meeting was between WB Minister Becharam Manna and the suppliers union in which no decision was reached at.
