South TN Rains: Central team inspected flood affected areas in Thoothukudi

Thoothukudi: Colonel K.P. Central team under the leadership of. After meeting with corporation officials, Singh inspected flood-affected areas including SBI Colony, Muthammal Colony and Adhiparasakthi Nagar in Thoothukudi to ascertain the damage caused by the floods.

After this, the team is likely to visit the flood affected areas of Srivaikuntam, Eral and Kayalpattinam.

G Prakash, additional commissioner of municipal administration and monitoring officer, who joined the inspection, said that 40 submerged areas in Thoothukudi district are still inaccessible and trained personnel like NDRF can access such areas. However, drainage of stagnant water has started and it is expected that inspections can be done in these areas within six hours.

Around 4,000 NDRF personnel were engaged in the rescue operation in Thoothukudi. With the help of ten helicopters, food packets were dropped and stranded people, especially pregnant women and elderly people, are being evacuated by air. The team will take stock of the damage caused by floods in Tirunelveli tomorrow.
