Special Operation in Chennai: 100 Criminals Arrested; Several Accused in Sriperumbudur Murder Case Apprehended

Tamil Nadu: On the night of May 19, the Chennai police launched a special operation, executing a major crackdown. During this operation, approximately 100 miscreants were arrested. This action was undertaken with the objective of strengthening law and order and curbing crime within the city and its surrounding areas.
In recent times, the state government has been taking stringent measures regarding law and order. The government, led by Chief Minister Vijay, has prioritized crime control and public safety since assuming office. Efforts are also being made by the government to regulate liquor shops. Steps are being taken to shut down TASMAC outlets operating near public spaces—such as temples, hospitals, and bus stands—in order to reduce overcrowding and disorder in these areas. Additionally, the campaign against narcotics has been intensified.
Meanwhile, a brutal murder that occurred on May 16 had heightened tensions in the region. Bharat alias Bharatkumar (25) and Seenu alias Srinivasan (24)—residents of Varadarajapuram in the Sriperumbudur area of Kanchipuram district—were murdered in broad daylight. This incident took place near the Manimangalam area, and a gang of six individuals has been accused of the crime.
Following the incident, the Manimangalam police immediately registered a case and constituted a special team to conduct an investigation. The police intensified their search for the accused. Acting on leads during the investigation, the police arrested several individuals in connection with this case. These include Santhosh (23), Kalaichelvan (20), Ayyappan (26), Kumaravel (20), Velan (19), and two minors.
According to police officials, the arrested accused are currently being interrogated, and an investigation into the entire gang’s network is underway. This operation is being viewed as a significant step toward crime control.
The objective of this ongoing special operation in Chennai and its surrounding areas is stated to be taking strict action against criminals and bolstering the public’s confidence in their safety. The police have indicated that such operations will be further intensified in the coming days.
