Speeding SUV kills man, 3 others injured
Navi Mumbai: In a tragic incident that took place on Thursday night in Navi Mumbai’s Old Ulwe village, a 39-year-old man lost his life and three others were injured after they were hit by a speeding SUV.
The deceased has been identified as Pramod Singh, a native of Uttar Pradesh, who was standing near a container when the speeding car hit him fatally.
Many collisions occurred due to high speed driving
The incident took place between 9 pm and 9.30 pm in Old Ulwe village. The driver of the SUV, identified as Siddharth Vishwanath Dere, 20, of Sector 48, Seawoods, was allegedly driving at a high speed. Dera’s reckless driving led to several collisions, starting with him hitting a scooter and ultimately resulting in Singh’s tragic death.
Due to the collision, scooter riders Rohan Mukadam and his brother Sarvesh Mukadam, resident of Belapur, fell a long distance. Although he sustained injuries, his condition is reported to be stable, and he is currently receiving medical attention at a local hospital.
The car driver Dera also suffered injuries in the incident and has been admitted to the hospital for treatment.
A case has been registered against the SUV driver
Following the complaint filed by Rohan Mukadam, the NRI police registered a case against Dera under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Motor Vehicles Act. The charges include section 304A (causing death by negligence), along with sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 337 (causing hurt by endangering the life or personal safety of others), 338 (causing serious injury by action). Endangering the life or personal safety of others), and section 427 of the IPC (mischief causing damage amounting to fifty rupees).
