Sri Lankan Parliament passes anti-corruption bill
Colombo: Sri Lanka’s parliament has passed an anti-corruption bill without a vote, the parliament’s media wing said in a statement. According to the media unit of the parliament, the bill was approved with amendments on Wednesday. Earlier, the bill was sent to the Supreme Court to check whether it was in line with the constitution, Xinhua news agency reported. The court informed the speaker that some clauses in the draft bill were not in consonance with the constitution, which have been amended. The law is linked to Sri Lanka’s agreement with the International Monetary Fund to reform the South Asian country’s governance and bring regulations in line with the United Nations Convention Against Corruption.
