Stabbing incidents in Tirunelveli and Tenkasi, one accused killed in police action

Tamil Nadu: A recent series of stabbings in Tirunelveli and Tenkasi districts has spread panic in the area. Police have so far arrested eight people in connection with the incident, while one person was shot dead in an operation on Sunday. Police say the action was taken to curb the ongoing violence and suspected gang activity.
The incidents began on May 28th, when a masked gang threatened a man with a knife in the Brahmadesam area. The accused then stabbed the man before fleeing. This incident spread panic in the area.
The same day, the gang attacked a sculpture workshop in the Vagaikulam area. There, they snatched a mobile phone from an employee and fled the scene. Following these incidents, police intensified the investigation and began searching for the gang’s identity and activities.
The incident escalated on the evening of May 29th. The same gang reportedly arrived in the Nettur area near Alangulam in Tenkasi district. Due to an old rivalry, the gang infiltrated a wedding ceremony. During the ceremony, the accused attacked attendees, using a sickle-like weapon, and severely injured some people in the eyes. A total of six people were injured in the attack.
Following these repeated incidents, the police took the matter seriously and intensified the investigation. Based on the identification of the suspects, raids were conducted, and eight people have been arrested so far. Police say they are searching for other gang members and are conducting a campaign to dismantle the entire network.
On Sunday, during a special operation, police shot and killed a suspect in an encounter. Police claim the accused was repeatedly involved in violent activities and was trying to evade arrest.
This entire incident has created an atmosphere of fear among the locals. The police administration has increased security in the area and appealed to the people to maintain peace.
