Statue worth Rs 2 crore 50 lakh seized in Chhattisgarh, three arrested with car

Mahasamund: The police have arrested three inter-state smugglers who were smuggling the oldest idol of the Buddhist deity Avalokiteshvara Padmapani from the 10th-11th century. The price of the idol in the international market is approximately Rs 2 crore 50 lakh. It is being told that smugglers were stealing both the idols from the temple in Angul district, Odisha area. On receiving this information, the team of Singhoda police station and cyber cell police arrested the accused. The Archeology Department has confirmed that the statue of Avalokiteshvara Padmapani is from the 10th-11th century. The Archeology Department has declared the statue important from the point of view of art and archaeology.

Under the guidance of Inspector General of Police, Raipur Region, Raipur Sheikh Arif Hussain (IPS), Superintendent of Police Mahasamund Dharmendra Singh (IPS), in view of the upcoming assembly elections, has informed all the police station/post in-charges of the district about illegal liquor, illegal drugs, suspicious activities coming from Digar province. And have directed to take strict action by keeping an eye on illegal transportation. Under this, the police station/post incharge and cyber cell team were keeping an eye on suspicious activities and illegal transportation at all the check posts coming from other provinces.

On Saturday, the police party was checking suspicious vehicles near the interstate check post Rehtikhol Odisha border under Singhoda police station area, when a white car from Bargarh, Odisha was coming at a high speed from Bargarh, Odisha towards Chhattisgarh. Seeing the police party, the smugglers left the vehicle before the check post and started running away, which the police team surrounded and caught 03 persons. In this, 01 person fled from the spot. When asked the reason for running away after seeing the police party, the three youths started giving evasive and evasive answers.
