STF caught drug smuggler, 143 kg ganja seized
In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Police successfully apprehended a drug peddler in Boudh district, leading to the seizure of a substantial amount of contraband. The operation, carried out in collaboration with Boudh Police, took place near Kalakhandi village under Puruna Katak police limits.
The arrested individual, identified as Parikhita Behera (30) and a resident of Narayanpur, was found in possession of 143 kg of ganja, along with other incriminating materials. The joint team of STF and Boudh Police conducted a thorough search in the area, uncovering the illegal stash.
Given the absence of any supporting documentation for the possession of the contraband, the STF promptly registered a case against Behera under sections 20 (b)(ii)(c)/29 of the NDPS Act, 1985. Subsequently, Behera was taken into custody and later presented before the court for legal proceedings.
This successful operation adds to the STF’s commendable efforts in combating the menace of narcotic drugs in the state. Since 2020, the STF has been actively engaged in a special drive, resulting in the seizure of significant quantities of illegal substances. The tally includes over 74 kg of brown sugar, 202 grams of cocaine, more than 117 quintals of ganja, and 3.630 kg of opium. Additionally, the STF has arrested over 185 drug dealers and peddlers.
Highlighting the commitment to eradicating the drug trade, the STF also reported the seizure and destruction of over 80 quintals of ganja in the preceding year alone. These relentless efforts underscore the authorities’ dedication to curbing the illicit drug trade and ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.
