Berhampur: In a tragic incident a student was killed in lightning strike in Ganjam district of Odisha on Saturday. The incident took place when the student was on his way to Narayanpur from Bomkei.
The deceased has been identified as 10th class student Rajesh Kumar Gouda from Narayanpur village under Bomkei panchayat in Digapahandi Block of the district. He had appeared for the Matriculation examination a few days before.
As per reports, Rajesh had gone to Kumarada to play cricket with his friends. When he was returning from Bomkei to Narayanpur, it started to rain backed by lightning strike and thunder.
Somehow Rajesh fell victim of a lightning strike and fell on the ground. Witnessing it, the locals rushed him to Bomkei hospital for treatment in a critical condition. However, the doctors there examined him and pronounced him dead.
After getting information police reached the spot and initiated probe. The body was seized and sent to Berhampur for autopsy.
A pal of gloom has descended in the area following the death of the student.
