Students protest in Ranchi; hunger strike begins.

Ranchi. Student protests in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, have intensified over alleged irregularities and mismanagement in competitive examinations. Following the model of the protests at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, a large number of students have gathered in Ranchi to demonstrate for their demands. The protesting students are raising their voices against alleged irregularities, a lack of transparency, and other issues related to the examination processes of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC).

Students argue that competitive examinations are linked to the future of the youth, and any form of malpractice affects the dreams of thousands of aspirants. In response to this, student organizations and candidates have launched a major agitation in Ranchi. The number of students at the protest site is steadily rising, and reports indicate that candidates from various districts are also arriving to join the movement.

The protesting students allege that questions regarding transparency have frequently arisen concerning various competitive examinations held in the state. They state that they have long been demanding reforms in the examination process, a fair investigation, and action against those found guilty. Their primary demand is for the competitive examination system to be made completely fair and credible, ensuring that hardworking candidates receive a fair opportunity.

The movement has also begun to garner political and social support. Abhijit Deepke, founder of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), has extended his support to the students’ agitation. He has expressed solidarity with the students and announced plans to visit Ranchi soon to join the protest. His support has sparked increased political discussion surrounding the movement.

The protesting students have now announced plans to intensify their agitation. According to the students, they will begin an indefinite hunger strike starting at 3 PM today. Additionally, a plan to lay siege to the Legislative Assembly on August 10 has been announced. The students maintain that their protest will continue until their demands are seriously considered. Students state that this movement is not limited to a single exam or the grievances of one specific group; rather, it is an issue concerning the future of the entire youth population. They point out that lakhs of young people in the state prepare for competitive examinations and appear for them after years of hard work. Consequently, any questions raised regarding the examination system directly impact the candidates’ careers.

Students are comparing this movement, which began in Ranchi, to the protests held at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. They maintain that they wish to convey their demands to the government and relevant commissions peacefully. However, as the movement gains momentum, the administration is also closely monitoring the situation.

An official response from the state government and relevant departments is awaited. Students hope that the government will soon engage in a dialogue regarding their concerns and take concrete steps to improve the examination system.

Experts believe that maintaining the credibility of competitive examinations is crucial for any state. Transparency in the examination process and the timely declaration of results are essential to retaining the trust of the youth. If a sense of mistrust develops among candidates, it could impact the entire employment ecosystem.

A large number of young people in Jharkhand prepare for government jobs; consequently, examinations conducted by bodies like JPSC and JSSC are considered vital for them. The students assert that they are protesting not for political gain, but for a fair examination system and to uphold their rights.

For now, the students’ protest in Ranchi continues, and the movement is expected to expand further in the coming days. Following announcements regarding an indefinite hunger strike and a plan to lay siege to the Legislative Assembly, all eyes are now fixed on the government’s and administration’s next course of action.
