Students should also receive free travel cards on trains: Ramdas’s demand

Tamil Nadu: PMK leader Ramadoss has appealed to the Tamil Nadu government to provide free travel passes to school and college students who travel by train.
He issued a statement regarding this on Saturday:
The scheme to provide free bus travel passes to all school students in Tamil Nadu was launched in 1999 and has now been extended to students of government-aided schools, government arts and science colleges, government dental colleges, and government vocational training institutions. The government provides Rs. 600 crore annually to the transport corporations for this purpose.
However, there are complaints that buses are not running on time and are not stopping at the designated stops. Therefore, special buses should be operated during school closing hours.
Furthermore, parents are providing monthly rail travel passes to students who live near railway stations. He said that the Tamil Nadu government should also provide rail travel passes to school and college students who travel by train in the upcoming academic year so that they can travel free of charge.
