Supply Inspector Babilata Behera convicted in bribery case and sent to jail

Angul: Babilata Behera, the former Supply Inspector of Kaniha Block in Angul district, who is at present posted as the Supply Inspector at the office of Chief Civil Supplies Officer (CSO), Baripada in Mayurbhanj district was convicted in a bribery case and sent to jail today.

Behera was charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 PC Act, 1988 for demanding and taking bribe of Rs 43,000 from a sub-whole seller of K. Oil in order to sign the utilization certificate of K. Oil distribution and to issue the release order in his favour.

Today, she was convicted by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Angul and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of four years and to pay fine. Besides, she was sent to jail custody to serve her sentence.

Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for dismissal of Babilata Behera from service following her conviction.
