Supreme Court Issues Notice to YS Jagan and CBI in Disproportionate Assets Case
Supreme Court Issues Notice to Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and CBI Over Disproportionate Assets Case in HyderabadDuring a Friday hearing, a division bench comprising Justices Abhay S. Oka and Pankaj Mithal served notice to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, CBI, and others. This notice came in response to a plea filed by YSRCP rebel MP K. Raghurama Krishna Raju seeking the cancellation of bail granted to the AP CM in a disproportionate assets (DA) case. The petitioner’s counsels, Balaji Srinivasan and Rohan Dewan, contested the validity of the Telangana High Court’s rulings on August 26, 2022, and October 28, 2022, rejecting the plea for revoking Jagan Mohan Reddy’s bail. They argued that the October 28 order was mechanically issued without recognizing that the accused had violated bail conditions by not appearing in the criminal trials. The petitioner alleged that the AP Chief Minister deliberately prolonged the criminal trials, highlighting that the trial had extended for over a decade without any charges framed against him.Further, the MP highlighted the apparent lack of interest from the CBI and Enforcement Directorate in the ongoing criminal trials against Jagan Mohan Reddy.
The Supreme Court ordered that this current plea be linked with another pending petition seeking the transfer of the disproportionate assets case trial from Hyderabad, preferably to Delhi. The court scheduled the next hearing for the first week of January.
