Census 2027: States and UTs asked to appoint enumerators, supervisors by January 15

New Delhi: The Registrar General of India has directed all states and Union Territories to complete the appointment of census enumerators and supervisors by January 15, 2026, as part of preparations for the 2027 Census.

This massive exercise will involve over 3 million enumerators and supervisors, making it the world’s largest administrative activity.

The appointed personnel will undergo training and will be responsible for collecting data during the census, which will be conducted in two phases starting April 1, 2026.

The census will be India’s first fully digital census, introducing mobile applications, online self-enumeration, and real-time monitoring tools.

The Registrar General has created a web portal, the Census Management and Monitoring System (CMMS), to streamline the appointment process and monitor progress in real-time.
