T. Rajendar files petition to stop commercial use of songs from his film

Tamil Nadu: The Chennai High Court has ordered AVM to respond to a petition filed by director T. Rajendra and his wife seeking a ban on the commercial use of songs from their film, claiming to infringe copyright.
Director and actor T. Rajendra wrote and directed the film “Uyirulla Vaari Usha,” which he also composed. T. Rajendra had given the rights to the songs from the film, released in 1983, to AVM.
After nearly 42 years, the film “Uyirulla Vaari Usha” was re-released last February. At the same time, it was discovered that the film’s songs had been transferred from AVM to several companies for commercial purposes.
Subsequently, “Uyirulla Vaari Usha” producer T. Rajendra and his wife Usha Rajendra filed a lawsuit against AVM and W.L. Epic Media, seeking a ban on the commercial use of songs from the film, claiming to infringe copyright.
The matter came up for hearing on Monday before Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy. The judge ordered AVM and W.L.E.P. Media to respond to the petition by April 20 and adjourned the hearing.
