Tamil Nadu: Weather alert; heavy rain and strong winds likely in several districts, including Chennai.

Tamil Nadu: The Chennai Meteorological Department has issued a warning regarding adverse weather conditions in several districts of Tamil Nadu for today (June 19). According to the department, rain is likely in the districts of Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, and Kanchipuram by 10 AM today. Additionally, heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds may be experienced in several other districts.

The Meteorological Department stated that these weather changes are due to a low-pressure area passing through Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh, combined with an atmospheric circulation system formed near the southeast Arabian Sea and Kerala. Due to these conditions, rainfall activity has intensified across various parts of the state, and the situation is likely to remain active in the coming hours.

Warnings have also been issued for the districts of Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Tiruppur, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Sivaganga, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Karur, Tiruchirappalli, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Cuddalore, Kallakurichi, Viluppuram, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, and Namakkal. Adverse weather is also expected in the Puducherry and Karaikal regions.

Strong winds, potentially reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour, may occur in some areas. Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms is also likely. The Meteorological Department has advised people to exercise caution, urging travelers and those in open areas to remain alert.

Yesterday evening, heavy rain accompanied by strong winds was recorded in Chennai and surrounding areas, leading to waterlogging in several locations. Normal life was also affected by this sudden change in weather. Experts believe that rainfall activity is likely to continue over the next few hours and days as long as the low-pressure area remains active. In light of this situation, the administration is on alert, and local-level monitoring has been stepped up.

Overall, weather conditions are expected to be challenging today for several parts of Tamil Nadu, where rain and strong winds could disrupt daily life.
