85% voter turnout in Tamil Nadu, an unprecedented record

Tamil Nadu: A record voter turnout was recorded in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections on Thursday. A total of 84.51 percent voter turnout was reported, the highest ever in the state’s 74-year electoral history. This election was significant in many ways, as it was the first assembly election held in the state after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll. Additionally, 300 companies of the Central Armed Police Force were deployed to maintain peace and order at polling stations and prevent any disturbances or violence. Voting was marked by high enthusiasm, with citizens standing in long queues to cast their votes. Crowds were seen at polling stations in many areas from early morning, indicating a high voter awareness and active participation. The Election Commission and the administration monitored the entire process and provided necessary facilities at all polling stations. Political analysts view this high voter turnout as a sign of increased public participation and political competition.
