Mumbai: Winter chill gives way to smog, city’s air quality remains poor

Maharashtra: A brief winter experience swept through Mumbai on Friday, with cool breezes, clear blue skies, and a significant drop in temperatures, bringing some relief to residents. The early morning hours were cool and pleasant, raising hopes of a comfortable day ahead in the humid city. However, this relief was short-lived as a thick layer of smog gradually settled over the city, reducing visibility and worsening Mumbai’s air pollution problem.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted a clear and pleasant day, with temperatures expected to hover between 20 degrees Celsius and 31 degrees Celsius. While the weather was pleasant, air quality soon became the city’s biggest concern. By morning, smog was visible in many parts of Mumbai, dampening the initial optimism of the cool start.
