Tesla launched its first charging station in India

Mumbai: World's leading electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla on Monday launched its first charging station in India. The American EV company has started an electric charging station at One BKC in Bandra-Kurla Complex. Elon Musk-led Tesla said on social media platform 'X', "Tesla's Supercharger at One BKC in Mumbai is now live." The new charging station has four V4 supercharging stalls (DC fast chargers) and four AC destination chargers. Tesla's supercharging stalls will provide a maximum charging speed of 250 kW, which will cost Rs 24 per kWh, while destination chargers will provide charging up to 11 kW at a rate of Rs 14 per kWh. Earlier in mid-July, Tesla opened the country's first showroom in BKC, Mumbai. Tesla plans to open three more charging stations in Mumbai by the end of September as part of its charging infrastructure expansion. These charging stations will be set up in Navi Mumbai, Thane and Lower Parel. The move is aimed at promoting premium customers of Tesla in India's financial capital and increasing the adoption of electric vehicles. Currently, Tesla's Model Y is available for sale in India. There are two versions of the Model Y, the first being a long range rear-wheel drive model with a starting price of Rs 67.89 lakh and the second being a rear-wheel drive model priced at Rs 59.89 lakh. Both models are being imported from China's Shanghai Gigafactory as a completely built unit (CBU). Deliveries are expected to begin in the third and fourth quarters of 2025. To set up a service center near the showroom in BKC, Tesla India Motor and Energy Pvt Ltd has also leased 24,500 sq ft of space in Kurla West, Mumbai.
