Tripura government signs agreement with GNRC for super-speciality hospital Saha

Tripura: Chief Minister Manik Saha said on Thursday that the state government has signed an agreement with the Guwahati Neurological Research Centre to build a superspecialty hospital in Hapania, West Tripura district.

Earlier, the government had signed an agreement with Shreeja Hospitals and Research Institute, an Imphal-based medical institution, to build a superspecialty hospital and medical college in RK Nagar, the same district.

He told reporters, “We have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GNRC, a Guwahati-based medical institution, to build a superspecialty hospital on vacant land belonging to Tripura Jute Mills Limited. A team from our department has already visited Guwahati to inspect the infrastructure and facilities available at GNRC.” However, the Chief Minister, who also holds the Health portfolio, declined to provide further details about the MoU with GNRC.

Saha also stated that initiatives have been taken to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and manpower at the government-run Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital and Agartala Government Medical College. He said, “We have signed an MoU with AIIMS, New Delhi, to improve healthcare services at GBP Hospital. Based on their advice, we have decided to increase the number of ICU beds from 156 to 326. Furthermore, GBP Hospital is directly connected to AIIMS, New Delhi, via telemedicine to ensure better medical care for patients in the state.” Saha added that a dedicated 16-bed ICU for patients with severe respiratory problems and a fully equipped ICU in the trauma center were commissioned at GBP Hospital on Thursday. He added, “The state cabinet has already discussed the creation of a medical university to regulate medical colleges and other medical institutions in the state,” adding that the government aims to reduce referral cases by utilizing and improving existing medical facilities in the state. Currently, the North-East state has three medical colleges offering 450 MBBS seats and 119 PG courses.
