Irregularities in appointments to Municipal Administration Department: AIADMK appeals to Supreme Court

Tamil Nadu: The AIADMK filed an appeal in the Supreme Court alleging that the Anti-Corruption Department had not yet filed a case against Minister K.N. Nehru and others, despite the Supreme Court’s order in connection with irregularities in recruitment in the Municipal Administration Department.

Last week, the Chennai High Court ordered the Anti-Corruption Bureau to file a case against Minister K.N. Nehru and others based on evidence submitted by the Enforcement Directorate regarding bribery for appointments in the Tamil Nadu Municipal Administration and Drinking Water Supply Department.

In this situation, before a bench comprising Chief Justice M.M. Shrivastava and Justice G. Arulmurugan, lawyer S. Tamilselvan, representing AIADMK MP I.S. Inpadurai, complained that despite the Supreme Court’s order in the matter, the Anti-Corruption Department police had not yet filed a case.

The judges hearing the appeal questioned what the court could do in this matter, given that the order had been issued only a few days earlier. Later, they stated that if a petition were filed, it would be heard according to normal procedures.
