Punjab: 57 arrested for drug trafficking

Punjab: Police on Sunday arrested 57 alleged drug peddlers after conducting raids at 286 places across the state. 42 FIRs were registered during the day. With this, the total number of drug peddlers arrested so far during the 169 days of “Yuddh Nashiyaan Viruddh” campaign has gone up to 26,023.

461 grams of heroin, 415 intoxicant tablets and capsules besides drug money worth Rs 31,550 were seized in the police raids. Special Director General of Police (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla said the state government has implemented a three-pronged strategy — enforcement, de-addiction and prevention (EDP) — to eradicate the menace of drug addiction from the state.
