Two policemen suspended in Odisha

Baripada: Two police personnel were suspended and a home guard was issued a show-cause notice on Sunday for allegedly passing confidential information about a raid to a suspected cattle smuggler in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, officials said.

According to a senior police officer, a raid was conducted against cattle smugglers in the Jharpokharia police station area on June 13th on the instructions of the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Eastern Range. He said these three policemen allegedly helped the cattle smugglers escape from the scene before the raid.

On the DIG’s instructions, a departmental inquiry was conducted against the Inspector-in-Charge of the Jharpokharia police station. Additional Superintendent of Police Deepak Kumar Gochayat said, “Based on the findings, the Superintendent of Police has suspended an Assistant Sub-Inspector and a constable posted at the same police station for allegedly helping the cattle smuggler.”

Additionally, a home guard, who was allegedly aware of the police station’s activities, has been issued a show-cause notice, asking him to explain his role in the case within 30 days.

The Additional Superintendent of Police said the Superintendent of Police has recommended his dismissal to the relevant authority.

Meanwhile, Mayurbhanj police have intensified efforts to trace and arrest the animal smuggler.
