Niece turns out to be the thief, jewellery theft from uncle’s house revealed

Durg. Police have solved a case of jewelry theft worth lakhs of rupees. One accused has been arrested, while two minors were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board and sent to a remand home. Police recovered jewelry and cash worth a total of Rs. 4,23,700 from the accused. Swami Mandavi (34), a resident of Ramnagar Muktidham in the Vaishali Nagar police station area, filed a complaint on February 22, 2026. He stated that gold and silver jewelry kept in a cupboard in his house number 203 was stolen between December 21, 2025, and February 15, 2026.
During the investigation, based on information from an informant, the complainant’s minor niece was questioned. She confessed to the theft and said she had given the stolen jewelry to her friend, Ranjeet Verma, to sell.
Following this, police detained and interrogated Ranjeet Verma (19), a resident of Krishna Nagar Supela. During interrogation, he admitted to selling the stolen jewellery to other accomplices. Following the accused’s information, the police recovered a gold necklace (worth approximately Rs 2,50,000), a gold mangalsutra (worth approximately Rs 1,70,000) and Rs 3,700 in cash. The police arrested the accused, Ranjeet Verma, and presented him in court. Meanwhile, the boy and girl in conflict with law were presented before the Juvenile Justice Board and sent to a child protection home. According to the police, the search for other suspects in this case is ongoing and more arrests are possible soon.
