A man died after being beaten by a mob in Mizoram; seven accused have been arrested

The victim, identified as C. Lalramenga, a resident of Farkawn village in east Mizoram’s Champhai district, was allegedly thrashed by the local vigilantes (Village Defence Party) while returning from Myanmar on Saturday night on suspicion of peddling drugs, the officer said.
The victim died early Sunday, a few hours after being grilled and released by the local vigilantes, he added.
Suspecting foul play, his relatives filed a police complaint on Sunday. Acting on the complaint, police detained seven members of the VDP from Farkawn village, who were taken to Champhai for further questioning, the officer said.
