Punjab: Woman constable arrested with more than 17 grams of heroin, dismissed from service

Punjab: The Punjab Police has dismissed from service a woman constable who was arrested for carrying 17.71 grams of heroin in Bathinda district, an official said on Thursday. The arrest comes amid the state government’s ongoing anti-drug campaign ‘Yuddh Nashe Viruddh’. Deputy Superintendent of Police (City-1) Harbans Singh said that based on information, the police along with the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) stopped the car of Amandeep Kaur near Badal flyover in Bathinda on Wednesday evening. On searching, the police recovered 17.71 grams of heroin from her and her car was seized, the official said.

Singh said she has been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Inspector General of Police Sukhchain Singh Gill said Kaur has been dismissed as per the state government’s directions. It said any personnel found involved in drug-related cases will be dismissed. He said that Mansa Senior Superintendent of Police Bhagirath Meena has dismissed the officer from service following due procedure. Investigation is also being conducted to assess the properties and other assets acquired by the accused. Gill said that the responsibility of investigating the case has been handed over to Bathinda SSP Amneet Kondal.
