General Motors’ Oshawa plant will operate in two shifts

World World: General Motors (GM), which produces pickup trucks at its Oshawa Assembly Plant in Canada, has decided to work in two shifts instead of three due to reduced demand and trade-related challenges. This decision will affect about 700 employees of the plant. According to the company and the union, the decision was taken due to the effects of US President Donald Trump’s tariff policies, which have forced the automobile industry to reconsider its suppliers and production plans.

The Oshawa plant produces light and heavy-duty Chevrolet Silverado pickup trucks for the North American market. These vehicles are also manufactured at plants in the US and Mexico. Unifor, which represents about 3,000 employees at this plant, called GM’s decision “reckless”.

In addition, GM has decided to increase production at its Fort Wayne pickup truck plant in Florida. Production at the Oshawa plant will be readjusted from the U.S. market to the Canadian market, due to falling production and slow sales.
