New restrictions on Brazil’s chicken trade

Business Business: Brazil’s agriculture ministry on Thursday updated the list of countries that have imposed restrictions on chicken trade from the world’s biggest chicken exporter. The move comes after Brazil confirmed its first case of bird flu, which was found on a commercial farm in the city of Montenegro in southern Brazil’s Rio Grande do Sul state.

The countries that have banned all poultry trade from Brazil include China, the European Union, South Africa, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Bolivia, Morocco, Sri Lanka and Pakistan. There is no change in trade with Mexico, South Korea, Chile, Canada, Uruguay, Malaysia and Argentina.

The new restrictions added Iraq, East Timor, the Philippines and Jordan on May 21, while Colombia also issued its statement on the same day.
