Punjab: Two criminals arrested after encounter

Punjab: Ludhiana Crime Branch team arrested two miscreants after an encounter near Phullanwal Chowk at around 1.15 am on Sunday night. When the police tried to stop them at the check post, the miscreants opened fire on them and started running away on a scooter. In retaliation, the police team also fired at the miscreants, in which both of them suffered leg injuries. Police recovered illegal weapons, live cartridges from both the miscreants and took them to the civil hospital. Additional DCP Crime Amandeep Singh Brar said that the miscreants have been identified as Gagandeep Singh Gaggu and Mandeep Kumar Mithu. Several cases related to drug smuggling and snatching are registered against both the miscreants. Recently, they snatched a woman’s chain at Sixth Sense Spa near Aarti Chowk in Ludhiana. ADCP said that the late night action by the Crime Branch was led by Inspector Rajesh Kumar under the supervision of ACP Crime Rajesh Sharma. Further investigation is underway.
