Assam: Elderly women receive free treatment at Peerless Hospital
Guwahati: Around 40 elderly women from Matri Niwas Old Age Home in Mathgharia and the Government Old Age Home in Sonapur received free medical treatment at Peerless Hospital Guwahati on Tuesday as part of a community welfare initiative.
The beneficiaries were provided comprehensive health check-ups, medical consultations, diagnostic services and medicines at no cost. The hospital also arranged transportation for the elderly women.
The initiative was coordinated by Garima Saikia Garg, who facilitated the visit to ensure the residents received timely medical attention. A team of specialist doctors and technicians at Peerless Hospital conducted detailed examinations and provided treatment based on medical diagnosis.
Speaking on the occasion, Gautam Kumar Das, CEO of Peerless Hospital Guwahati, said the hospital was committed to making healthcare accessible to all sections of society. He added that caring for senior citizens was both a responsibility and a privilege, and assured continued support for similar outreach efforts in the future.
Garima Saikia Garg expressed gratitude to the hospital for its support, stating that elderly mothers deserve the same care and attention as family members. She said initiatives like these, though small, could bring comfort and dignity to those most in need.
February 4 holds personal significance for Garg as it marks her marriage anniversary with late singer Zubeen Garg, who passed away in September last year. She chose to observe the day by supporting a humanitarian cause.
The initiative was widely appreciated as a step towards ensuring dignified healthcare for senior citizens living in old age homes. Peerless Hospital Guwahati said it would continue to undertake similar community outreach programmes in the future.
