Panipat National Conference calls for rethinking the growth model
A one-day multidisciplinary national conference, sponsored by the Higher Education Department, on the topic ‘Synergising Commerce, Economics and Management for Sustainable Development’ was organised at SD PG College here on Wednesday. Professor (Dr) MM Goyal, former Vice-Chancellor and founder of ‘Nedonomics’ (Economics of Needs) school of thought shared his knowledge with the faculty, research scholars and students as the keynote speaker.
As many as 168 delegates registered themselves for the conference, including researchers and professors from states like West Bengal, Chennai, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Delhi and Rajasthan and presented their research papers.
Speaking on ‘Nedonomics’, Professor Goyal emphasised the urgent need to rethink prevailing development paradigms amid escalating global challenges, noting that conventional models driven by wealth accumulation and consumption have fostered inequality, environmental degradation and a widening gap between material advancement and human well-being.
Professor Goyal said that ‘Nedonomics’ is the ‘queen’ of social sciences, coordinating strategy, accomplishment and liberation and thus being both necessary and sufficient for sustainable development.
He further said that sustainable development is not just a policy objective, but a collective moral commitment, which requires meaningful dialogue, continuous innovation and building effective bridges between theory and practice.
