Anyone who throws stones at train carriages will face action: the Railway Protection Force has warned.

Tamil Nadu: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has warned that legal action will be taken against anyone who throws stones at train compartments, even if they are minors.
Stone-pelting incidents have occasionally been reported on trains running in the Southern Railway zone, which includes Chennai. On Sunday, some individuals threw stones at the Vande Bharat Express train traveling from Chennai to Tirunelveli near Manalur village between Virudhachalam and Thazhanallur. The windows of the train compartments were damaged in the incident.
In the Southern Railway zone, one case of stone-pelting on a train was registered in the Villupuram section in 2023. Two youths were arrested in connection with this incident. In 2024, six stone-pelting incidents have been reported. Cases have been registered in four of these incidents, and four people have been arrested.
So far this year, six stone-pelting incidents have occurred. Cases have been registered in five of these incidents, and two people have been arrested in connection with the incident that took place in the Virudhachalam section.
Regarding the stone-pelting incidents, RPF Inspector Sebastian at Chennai Egmore station said that throwing stones at trains is a crime. Anyone who throws stones, whether young or old, will be arrested and prosecuted. He added that if the accused are found guilty, they will face a minimum fine of ₹5,000 and a prison sentence of up to five years.
