Andhra: Congress reiterates commitment to OBC welfare and student rights at Kurnool meeting.
KURNOOL: Reaffirming its commitment to social justice, Backward Classes (BC) empowerment, and student welfare, the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) OBC Wing conducted a tri-district review meeting for Kurnool, Nandyal, and YSR Kadapa districts at the DCC office in Kurnool on Saturday.
Chief Guest and APCC OBC State Chairman Sonti Nagaraju, alongside DCC President Boya Kranti Naidu and District OBC Cell Chairman DV Sambasivudu, led the proceedings.
The meeting passed key resolutions calling for the transparent implementation of public employment reservations, immediate filling of government vacancies, and adequate budgetary allocations for BC welfare schemes.
Expressing concern over Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs), Model Schools, and BC hostels, leaders highlighted severe infrastructure deficits—including unhygienic food, drinking water shortages, staff vacancies, and falling academic standards—demanding redressal on a war footing.
Following the meeting, leaders organized a solidarity rally themed ‘Students’ Voice is the Nation’s Voice.’
Addressing the gathering, DCC President Kranti Naidu warned that Congress would resist any attempts to suppress democratic student rights.
He demanded central government accountability for alleged attacks on students and called for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to apologize to the student community.
Upon receiving news of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation, Congress workers erupted in celebrations, bursting firecrackers and leading a victory rally from the DCC office to the iconic Konda Reddy Fort.
Former MLC M Sudhakar Babu, State OBC General Secretary Mallikarjuna Yadav, senior party office-bearers, women’s wing leaders, and numerous party workers participated in the rally.
