Bhubaneswar: Chandaka elephant Ramu’s skeleton to be exhibited at Godibari Nature Reserve

Bhubaneswar: Efforts are underway to preserve the legacy of Ramu, a beloved elephant from Chandaka forest near Bhubaneswar, Odisha’s capital.

As per the information received, the skeleton of Ramu, buried in the forest after his death at the age of 40 last year due to electrocution, has been exhumed.

A team of 25 experts, led by zoologist Dr. Shiba Prasad Parida, along with Chandaka forest ranger Dhyana Tudu and Dr. Sudipta Ranjan Singh, Professor of Forensic Medicine at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, has retrieved over 200 bones of the elephant. These will be assembled and displayed at the Godibari Nature Reserve.

The affectionate elephant’s skeleton is set for display for educational and tourism purposes, helping the next generation learn about elephants.

Ramu, the peace-loving elephant was adored by the locals of Chandaka, and this display aims to raise awareness about these majestic creatures.
