Italian football in crisis, President Gravina resigns

Rome: The president of the Italian Football Federation resigned on Thursday amid political pressure. The decision came two days after the Azzurri failed to qualify for their third consecutive World Cup.
Gabriele Gravina’s decision could also lead to the ouster of Italy coach Gennaro Gattuso.
Italian Sports Minister Andrea Abodi called for a change in the country’s football leadership after Gravina oversaw two disappointing sets of World Cup qualifiers.
Italy’s chances of reaching this year’s tournament in North America were dashed after losing to Bosnia and Herzegovina in a penalty shootout in the qualifying playoff on Tuesday.
