Jalandhar: Woman murdered by husband

Phagwara: A 26-year-old woman was brutally murdered by her husband in Sanghe Khalsa village near Phagwara on Wednesday night. The deceased Sandeep Kaur was a mother of two children. Her husband Inderjit Singh allegedly had an illicit relationship with his sister-in-law, which often led to quarrels between them. According to police sources, the incident took place when Singh allegedly attacked his wife with a sharp-edged weapon, killing her on the spot. Her family and relatives rushed to the spot on receiving the news. Police have registered a case against Inderjit and handed over the body of Sandeep Kaur to her parents after post-mortem.

Two arrested with heroin

Phagwara: Police have arrested two persons in separate incidents and recovered 12 grams of heroin from them. In the first case, a police team intercepted a suspect Inderjit Singh alias Babu near Param Chowk. On seeing the police, the man allegedly took out a transparent plastic packet from his trouser pocket and threw it on the roadside grass and then tried to flee. He was apprehended. 7 grams of heroin was recovered during the search. In another action, a police team was patrolling near a railway crossing when a youth coming towards them allegedly took out a black plastic packet from his pocket and threw it on the roadside. He was apprehended. Police recovered 5 grams of heroin from him.
Pills recovered from jail
Phagwara: A major security lapse was foiled at Kapurthala Central Jail when officials recovered a large quantity of illegal pills from an inmate and his visitor during a scheduled meeting. Inmate Karamveer Singh, a resident of Pakhopur in Tarn Taran, was searched during a routine security check inside the jail. Officials recovered 70 unnumbered white tablets hidden in his trouser pocket. Also, the jail staff searched Rajwant Kaur, who had come to meet him. During the search, 56 unnumbered white tablets were recovered from him. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Jail Act and law.

250 kg illicit liquor seized

PHAGWARA: Talwandi Chaudhariyan police seized 250 kg illicit liquor and arrested one person during a raid at Khijarpur village. The operation was launched following a tip-off that Manpreet Singh was preparing and selling illicit liquor at his house. During the raid, Singh was caught working with a drum full of mash. Police recovered about 250 kg mash from the spot.
