Himachal: Road in Thural village remains unusable even after three weeks, residents protest

Himachal Pradesh: Hundreds of residents of Challaha village near Thural protested on Wednesday against the poor condition of roads in the area. They said the Thural-Dagera road, damaged by heavy rains on August 26, has yet to be restored despite repeated requests to the Public Works Department (PWD). Villagers warned they would continue their protests if the department failed to repair the portion washed away by the rain and flash floods. They stressed that the road is a lifeline for daily commuters, including schoolchildren, yet it remains impassable even after three weeks.
Agitated residents told media that they had contacted the PWD, the local MLA, and other officials, but no action was taken. “We repaired a small portion ourselves for pedestrians and children to pass through,” said villager Rakesh Kumar. Villagers and panchayat representatives said they repeatedly met with the executive engineer of PWD Bhawarna, but their pleas were ignored. Despite the local MLA directing officials to repair the road nearly 20 days ago, no progress has been made. Residents said this inaction reflects the authorities’ negligence and vowed to intensify their agitation until the road is restored.
