
Jalandhar: A Shahkot resident was arrested with illegal weapons during a blockade conducted by the Nakodar police against anti-social elements in Jalandhar on Sunday. A resident of Sadakpur was arrested with an illegal pistol near Khewa drain. The man was found carrying a weapon when the police arrested him while he was going to another village on a bike after receiving information in this regard. The accused has been identified as Akashdeep Singh alias Akash, a resident of Sadakpur in Shahkot. The police have also recovered a bike (PB08-CV-9615) from his possession, which he was riding at the time of his arrest.
An FIR has been registered against Akash under sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act in Jalandhar. Though no information has been received about the make or brand of the weapon, the police are investigating further. Nakodar police said that the police party led by Nakodar police station in-charge Sub Inspector Baljinder Singh and ASI Major Singh was on patrol and was going from village Toot Kalan towards Talwandi Salem. Then they got information that a person is going from village Fatehpur towards village Talwandi Salem on a bike. He has an illegal pistol. The police party was informed about this. Nakodar police set up a check post. The accused who came on the bike was caught by the police and a .32 bore pistol was recovered from his pocket.
