Tamil Nadu: Two children drowned in the Ananthagiri pond near Avinashi on Sunday.

Dharnish (11), a resident of the Ananthagiri Amuthan Garden area near Avinashi in Tirupur district, was a Class 7 student at the Cuddalore Government School. Thirumurugan’s son, Hariharan (8), a resident of the same area, was a Class 2 student at the government school.

The two boys had gone out to play on Saturday because school was closed. When they did not return home late at night, their parents filed a missing persons report at the Avinashi police station.

Meanwhile, police received information that the bodies of the two boys were floating in the Ananthagiri pond in Nambiyampalayam near Avinashi.

Police investigated the scene and determined that the deceased were Dharnish and Hariharan. Subsequently, the police took possession of the bodies of the two boys and sent them to the Avinashi Government Hospital for postmortem. The deaths of two boys in the same area have caused widespread grief in the area. Avinashi police have registered a case and are investigating.
