Tamil Nadu: 8 lakh concrete houses for slum-free vision, Rs 28,687 crore fixed

Chennai: In the interim budget, ₹28,687 crore has been allocated for the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department, with the aim of building 800,000 concrete houses and making Tamil Nadu a slum-free state by 2030. Under the Kalaignar Kanavu Illam scheme, 171,000 houses have been completed so far, and construction on 29,000 more is underway. Given the overwhelming response to the scheme, the Chief Minister recently announced the construction of 100,000 more houses. Additionally, 114,488 houses built by the government since 2001 have been repaired and renovated at a cost of ₹969 crore.

Mudhalvarin Grama Salaigal Membattu Thittam is being implemented in Tamil Nadu to improve transport connectivity in remote areas and promote agriculture and economic activity by building good rural roads. So far, ₹8,911 crore has been disbursed, and 20,484 km of roads have been upgraded. Under the ‘Anathu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam-II’, ₹6,000 crore has been disbursed to provide essential infrastructure in gram panchayats, and 82,498 works have been initiated.
