Tamil Nadu: Demand for Restrictions Within 1-Kilometer Radius of Vote Counting Centers

Tamil Nadu: In Chennai, the Tamil Nadu Victory Association has submitted a petition to the State Chief Electoral Officer, putting forth several key demands regarding the security and transparency of vote-counting centers. The organization has urged that entry be restricted solely to authorized personnel within a one-kilometer radius of the counting centers, and that no office-bearers or workers of any political party be permitted to enter this designated zone.

This petition has been submitted at a time when the counting of votes in the state is scheduled for the upcoming Monday (May 4). In light of this, election preparations have intensified, and special attention is being paid to security arrangements.

Adhav Arjun, General Secretary of Thevaga Campaign Management, met with Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik at the Chennai Secretariat on Saturday to submit this petition. The petition states that entry into the counting centers should be restricted exclusively to authorized staff and officials appointed by the Election Commission, in order to prevent any form of disorder or dispute.

Furthermore, the organization has demanded that the results of each counting round be made public immediately, ensuring that the process remains transparent and to prevent the emergence of any rumors or confusion.

Adhav Arjun also raised a serious allegation, stating that an incident involving an arson attack on Thevaga’s election office in Trichy had occurred. He has demanded the immediate arrest of the police personnel allegedly involved in this incident.

The petition emphasizes that fairness and security must be the utmost priorities throughout the electoral process. It asserts that any form of political activity or crowding around the counting centers must be strictly controlled to ensure that the vote-counting process is completed peacefully and without obstruction.

Following these demands, discussions regarding the electoral atmosphere and security arrangements have intensified. While the administration has not yet issued an official response to this petition, it is anticipated that stringent security measures will be implemented on the day of the vote counting.
