Tamil Nadu DIG Vijayakumar commits suicide by shooting himself
Chennai (IANS). Tamil Nadu Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Vijayakumar shot himself at his residence in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore on Friday.
According to the police, the incident took place at 6.15 am and the body has been sent for postmortem.
Vijayakumar was found lying in a pool of blood at his camp office in the housing complex by his gunman after his morning walk.
Sources say that he took the service pistol from the gunman and went inside his room. Hearing the sound of gunshots from the DIG’s room, the gunman ran inside and found the senior IPS officer lying in a pool of blood.
The 45-year-old IPS officer lived with his family at the residence.
There is a wave of mourning in the entire state and police department due to this incident. The deceased officer had taken charge as DIG of Coimbatore range in January this year.
He was an IPS officer of 2009 batch and had served as Superintendent of Police in various districts of the state.
The DIG also attended a birthday party on Thursday evening. There is no disclosure yet about the DIG’s suicide. Suspicion is being raised over his death. Police has started further investigation.
