Tamil Nadu government said that 4.29 lakh houses were handed over in 5 years.

Tamil Nadu: In the last five years, 4.29 lakh houses have been built and given to the poor at a cost of ₹19,694 crore.

A press release issued by the Tamil Nadu government on Saturday stated:

The Dravidian Model government aims to eradicate all slums in Tamil Nadu and provide permanent housing for all. To this end, a target of building 800,000 permanent houses by 2030 was set. Additionally, the government launched a scheme to build houses for the poor, providing ₹3.50 lakh each to 200,000 families, totaling ₹7,000 crore.

Of this, only 100,000 houses were built during the previous AIADMK regime (2016-21). However, under the DMK regime, 1.79 lakh houses have been completed in just two years, 2024-26. Another 1.20 lakh houses are being built this year.

Similarly, the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board has built 4.29 lakh houses for Sri Lankan Tamils ​​over the past five years under various schemes, including apartments and the Ayothidas Pandit Housing Development Scheme, at a total cost of 19,694 crore rupees. Similarly, 5,281 infrastructure projects have been improved in Adi Dravida areas at a cost of 482 crore rupees. It is also reported that 23.56 lakh poor families have been given free house pattas.
