Tamil Nadu: Minister contesting from the same constituency for the 9th time

Tamil Nadu: Minister E. Periyasamy is contesting for the ninth time from the Athur Assembly constituency in Dindigul district.

He first contested and won from this constituency in 1989. Subsequently, he contested eight times in 1991, 1996, 2001, 2006, 2011, 2016, and 2021, and has been given another chance in the 2026 elections. After losing the elections in 1991 and 2001, he won the 2021 election by the highest margin of 1.35 lakh votes in Tamil Nadu. With his victory, Athur has the distinction of becoming a minister three times in 1996, 2006, and 2021. Periyasamy, who defeated the PMK candidate in the 2021 election, is contesting against the AIADMK candidate this time.
