Tamil Nadu: PMK to contest from Perambur

Tamil Nadu: The Perambur constituency, where DVE leader Vijay is expected to contest, has been given to the PMK in the AIADMK alliance.
Perambur is one of the oldest constituencies in Chennai. It was a separate constituency until the 2006 assembly elections. After the constituency realignment in 2008, it became a general constituency. The DMK has won here nine times, the Marxist three times, the AIADMK twice, and the Congress once. Satyavani Muthu, a prominent women activist in the Dravidian movement, has been elected to the assembly from the Perambur constituency, a constituency where the DMK has won the most number of times.
Party reports suggest that THAVEKA leader Vijay may contest from Perambur, an area with a large working-class population. At a meeting of party officials held in Perambur a few days ago, senior party leaders proposed that Vijay should contest from the Perambur constituency. In this situation, the Perambur constituency has been given to the PMK in the AIADMK alliance. The PMK is insisting on seats in Chennai. Therefore, Perambur and Ambattur are among the 18 seats allotted to them. It is worth noting that the PMK contested Perambur in the 2016 elections.
