Tamil Nadu: Renewable energy companies in trouble

Tamil Nadu Tamil Nadu: The recent order of not approving the application given by Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation for connecting the wind and solar power plant to the substation or signing the documents related to it has created concern and panic among the companies investing in the renewable energy sector in the state. This decision has become a cause of concern for investors who are planning to set up new wind and solar power projects in Tamil Nadu.
Due to Tamil Nadu’s naturally favorable environment for wind and solar energy, many private companies have been investing in this sector in the last few years. The number of companies installing wind turbines and solar panels in the state is continuously increasing. These companies require timely approval from the Green Energy Corporation to ensure profitable operations and power generation.
To set up wind and solar power plants, companies first have to select the right location. For this, it is important to see whether the facility to supply electricity is available in the nearest substation or not. After this the companies have to submit reports and applications to the Green Energy Corporation.
After completion of construction of a power plant, technical and safety inspection of the plant is carried out by the Office of the Chief Electrical Inspector. Only after this they are given approval. Only after all the processes are completed, the Electricity Board is given permission to connect the substation to the power grid, so that the generated electricity can be supplied to the state network.
Following the recent order, many investors are worried that delays in timely connections and approvals of projects may have a negative impact on their investments. Industry experts say that the number of investments and projects in the renewable energy sector is increasing rapidly, so any kind of bottleneck or administrative delay can affect the entire investment environment.
It has not been made clear in the government order what are the reasons behind not approving the application. Investors say that if the Green Energy Corporation delays or stops the approval of applications, it will become difficult for companies to start new projects. Apart from this, this decision will also impact financial planning, construction and power sale contracts.
Experts believe that to encourage the renewable energy sector, timely approvals and simplification of administrative processes are necessary. Cooperation of private investors is necessary to increase energy production capacity in Tamil Nadu. This order is likely to increase uncertainty among investors, which may further impact the expansion of renewable energy in the state.
The government and Green Energy Corporation are expected to establish clear communication with investors and make the approval process transparent. So that wind and solar power projects can run smoothly in Tamil Nadu and the renewable energy capacity of the state can increase.
