Tamil Nadu: ‘Yellow’ alert for 6 districts today

Tamil Nadu: A ‘yellow’ warning has been issued for six districts on Thursday (December 4) due to the possibility of heavy rainfall.
The Chennai Meteorological Department said in a press release issued on Wednesday:
Cyclone ‘Tithwa’, which formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining southeast Sri Lanka-Indian Ocean, weakened into a deep depression on Tuesday and intensified into a severe cyclonic storm over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining central-west Bay of Bengal-north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry-south Andhra Pradesh coasts.
It then slowly moved northward and weakened into a depression. Subsequently, it moved southwestward and weakened into a deep depression over the Puducherry coast of northern Tamil Nadu and adjoining areas by Wednesday (December 3) morning and remained over those areas around 8:30 am. It is likely to weaken further into a depression on Thursday morning.
Meanwhile, a low-level circulation persists over South India. Due to this, light rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at isolated places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal from Thursday (December 4) to December 9.
