Tamil Nadu: Yellow warning issued for heavy rain in 22 districts

Tamil Nadu Tamil Nadu: Yellow warning of heavy rain has been issued in 22 districts in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, June 2. The Meteorological Department gave this warning in the press release issued on Monday. According to weather experts, due to the activation of south-west monsoon in the state, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning in many districts.

The Meteorological Department said that southwest monsoon is likely to begin in some parts of Kerala in the next 2 to 3 days. Under the influence of this weather system, rainfall activities may also intensify over coastal and southern parts of Tamil Nadu.

The department said that at present an atmospheric circulation is present in South Kerala and adjoining Tamil Nadu areas. Apart from this, atmospheric circulation is also active over the south-east Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep. Due to these circumstances, the possibility of rain in South India has increased.

Meteorologists said that a low-pressure area is extending from eastern Vidarbha to South Kerala via Telangana, Rayalaseema, South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Under the influence of this low-pressure area, light rain with thunder and lightning may occur at isolated places over various parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal from Tuesday, June 2 to June 7.

Experts have appealed to the general public to remain alert during the upcoming rains. Heavy rain may increase the possibility of water logging and slipping on the road. Farmers and people living in rural areas have also been advised to make necessary preparations for the safety of their crops and animals.

The Meteorological Department has warned to avoid going to the banks of rivers and drains during rains. Also, use caution when driving in flooded areas and do not stay out in the open to avoid electrical hazards.

Chances of rain are particularly high in districts like Chennai, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Coimbatore, Tiruchirappalli, Chengalpattu and Tiruvallur. Administration and citizens have been urged to adopt security measures in these areas.

The Meteorological Department said that due to the increasing effect of monsoon in the coming days, there will be a slight drop in temperature in the state and light to moderate rain will continue in many districts. At the same time, fishermen in marine areas have been advised to avoid going into the sea.

Experts say that in the first phase of this monsoon, there is a possibility of good rain in the coastal areas and delta areas of the state, which will benefit agricultural activities. However, the local administration will remain alert to prevent flood-like situations due to heavy rains.
