Team India honoured retiring Beaumont and Knight with signed jerseys
New Delhi: Members of the Indian women’s cricket team paid emotional tributes to England legends Tammy Beaumont and Heather Knight as they bid farewell to their international careers after the historic one-off Test at Lord’s. In a heartwarming gesture, the Indian players presented signed Team India jerseys to the retiring cricketers in the visitors’ dressing room after the match.
The Lord’s Test, the first women’s Test to be played at the iconic venue, ended on Monday, marking the last international match for both Beaumont and former England captain Knight. India made history with a memorable 270-run victory, bidding farewell to two of England’s most influential figures in women’s cricket.
Sharing a video of the presentation on its official social media platforms, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) called the moment a fitting tribute to two modern-day greats of the game.
The caption read, “A heartwarming tribute to two illustrious careers. #TeamIndia players presented Heather Knight and Tammy Beaumont with special signed jerseys to celebrate their wonderful time in international cricket.”
Addressing the two veterans in the visitors’ dressing room, in the presence of the England squad, India batter Jemimah Rodrigues acknowledged their contribution to the game and thanked them for inspiring generations of cricketers.
Jemimah said in the video, “So, on behalf of the Indian team, Tammy and Heather, we want to say thank you for everything you’ve done for women’s cricket. It hasn’t been easy. So much hard work, sacrifice and tears, but to still come out and do what you’ve done for the country. You’ve all inspired more people than you could have imagined. And, you know, cricket is about making memories. And we, as the Indian team, want to leave you all with a little memory of your last match for England. Congratulations and all the best for everything.” The occasion was warmly welcomed by Beaumont and Knight, who ended illustrious international careers spanning over a decade, and played a key role in England’s rise in the women’s game.
